Blaire Archibald
Miromoda’s Emerging Designer winner, Blaire Archibald (Nga Puhi, Ngati Ruanui) won the status of Overall Winner for his nostalgic Menswear Collection named Matua. The Collection takes into consideration the colours and cuts of that time and incorporates the idea of progression to create a fresh, sharp perception on men’s fashion. The Matua Collection also includes an alternative viewpoint of New Zealand masculinity, shedding light on the more gentle and passionate side of strength.
Blaire is currently a studying an honours in Fashion Design at AUT and has also interned with Kate Sylvester.

Adrienne Whitewood
Miromoda Emerging Runner-Up Designer, Adrienne Whitewood (Rongowhakata) will be showing her Women’s Wear Collection at New Zealand Fashion Week. Adrienne recently graduated from AUT and has based her collection on a Maori quote by Ngatahiharuru Taepa. The quote, “Kimihia he ngaro”(search for the unseen unobtainable) has inspired Adrienne to explore and design an innovative collection never seen before through the use of technology. Whitewood incorporates laser engraved silks and viscose with linen, merino and cotton fabrics creating a versatile collection that hangs from the body while still allowing warmth and comfort.

Aroha Wikotu
Miromoda Established Winner, Aroha Wikotu (Whakatohea, Tuhoe) is owner of her Waikato based store and label Shikoba. Her clothing is known for its distinctive New Zealand prints on a canvas of vibrant coloured merinos, wools and linens. Her collections focuses on comforting the body shape of any women through the cut of the fabric and ensures that each garment can be combined and layered, though still being sophisticated.

Ana Hau
Miromoda Haute Couture Winner, Ana Hau (Nga Puhi, Te Rarawa) will be showing her Black Grace collection at New Zealand Fashion Week which was inspired from her most recent trip to New York. She draws ideas from the colour black in the way that it can acts as a silhouette to a women’s body creating well-made one off pieces that pushes boundaries and encourages differing viewpoints for each garment. Having graduated from AUT, Ana hopes to incorporate her design skills and Maori knowledge to develop a brand that subtly infuses Maori culture into garments.

Shona Tawhiao
Miromoda Haute Couture runner-up, Shona Tawhio (Ngai Te Rangi) uses traditional Maori techniques and natural fibres to create her Te Whiri Collection. Modern day paints, fabrics, wire and styling compliment the traditional Maori techniques providing fresh yet new designs. Shona also incorporates her Maori weaving techniques in producing unique garments and accessories that are completely hand made and hand weaved. The concept of the collection is based on the Post European Maori and the clothing worn during the early 1900’s.

Amber Bridgman
Miromoda Tee Shirt Winner, Amber Bridgman (Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe, Waitaha) is based in Otago and a Fashion Design graduate from Otago Polytechnic. Her tee shirt designs evolved from noticing that her children preferred trade marked, low quality clothing due to no culturally relevant quality clothing being available. From the waiata and haka her children perform, Amber has developed culturally specific designs.

Kereama Taepa
Miromoda Tee Shirt runner-up, Kereama Taepa uses his streetwear label, Urbanmaori, to develop his tee shirt designs based on the idea that people do absorb the visual language placed in urban environments. His designs focus on educating youth about Maori issues in a cotemporary and fun way by using customary Maori motifs as a reference to Maori culture, combined with urban media icons such as space invaders to tell Maori specific stories.
